This isn't ideally how I imagined us starting our blog, but hey, there is no avoiding the crisis we are all facing today around the world. There were two immediate issues that we have had to deal with since day one of the virus hitting Panama. Keeping our employees safe and healthy, and finding a way to maintain some money in their pockets through these uncertain times. Many restaurants closed their doors on day one, but we haven't been ready to give up the fight.
The first and foremost task at hand was to figure out what safety measures need to be taken to operate a restaurant during these times. This is new for everyone, and not even the ministry of health has dealt with a situation of this caliber before. Masks and gloves are a must at all time within the restaurant, and we also disinfect with a full body spray upon arriving to the workplace.
Temporarily we have closed Snack Shack to minimize our expenses and operate from one kitchen. We are offering small selection of the customers' favorite dishes from Mahalo Snack Shack & Mahalo Cocina y Jardin. We are rotating our team (only those who would like to or can work), in shifts of six days at a time, where they earn a daily wage. This means although their contracts are suspended, and we aren't able to meet their usual salary, they are still able to have extra money for food and supplies.
While we hope to see an end to this pandemic soon, we are working on many new exciting projects for the return of Mahalo. Stay tuned...
